Dear St. Aidan’s,
This Sunday between the worship services, Michael Pirri will be leading a workshop on “Inspiring Music for All Ages” in the Willow Room from 9:15-10:00 a.m. Gather to sing and discuss the riches of our own musical identities, bring hope and inspiration to the music in our lives, and learn more about how we glorify God in worship. This session explores music-making as a biblical endeavour, exposing the scriptural roots of why, what, and how we sing God’s praises.
This will be the final installment in our Gather & Grow series, so beginning on December 1, our Sunday worship schedule will revert to back to the early service beginning at 8:30 a.m. The later service will continue at the usual time of 10:30 am.
The Season on Advent, the beginning of the new church year, starts on next Sunday, December 1. Please scroll down for more details on opportunities to sign up for your Advent wreath-making supplies, join a conversation group (in-person or online) for our Advent book, and learn more about our Advent Retreat Day on Dec. 14. Next week, we will begin collecting dedications and donations for Christmas flowers and music—details to come in next week’s notices.
I hope to see you in church soon,
Becky+

4. This Sunday! Inspiring Music for All Ages (facilitated by Michael Pirri)
Sun., Nov. 24, 9:15-10:00 in the Willow Room. Gather to sing and discuss the riches of our own musical identities, bring hope and inspiration to the music in our lives, and learn more about how we glorify God in worship. This session explores music-making as a biblical endeavour, exposing the scriptural roots of why, what, and how we sing God’s praises.
5. Want to craft your own Advent wreath? Those who would like to participate in making your own Advent wreath with us on Sun., Dec. 1 (after both worship services), let us know that you plan to participate by filling out the form (scan QR code or visit https://tinyurl.com/Wreaths-at-St-Aidan) so we know how many supplies to have on hand. If you already have a brass ring or candles from Advents past that you will re-use, you may indicate that on the sign-up. Questions? Contact Martha Asselin or Rev. Becky.
6. This year’s Advent reflection book: Advent is the season in our church year when we prepare our hearts in anticipation for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. This Advent, our parish-wide Advent reflection book is Embracing Humanity by Isabelle Hamley. You can read it on your own or with your family, or if you would like to be part of a conversation group, we will offer two:
In-person group will meet on Sundays from 3-4 p.m. (Dec. 1, 8, 15, and 22), location TBA. Online group will meet on Mondays at 7 p.m. (Dec. 2, 9, 16, and 23). Email Rev. Becky at priest@staidansinthebeach.com for the Zoom link.
7. Dec. 14 Advent Retreat Day: Please save the date for our Advent retreat day, which will happen on Sat., Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Nave (worship space) at St. Aidan’s. The day will include space for silent prayer and reflection, guided contemplative prayer, hands-on activities, small group conversation, and worship. A simple lunch will be served, and tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. Then, at 4 p.m., we will cap the day with our Advent Lessons and Carols service, presented by our choir. (For those who would like to come early, the Altar Guild welcomes any who would like to share in the work of preparing for Christmas by polishing the brass beginning at 9 a.m.). The Advent retreat day is free, but we do need to know how many to expect (for lunch and supplies). Sign up by Wed., Dec. 11. either on the form on the table in the Narthex (church entryway) or email priest@staidansinthebeach.com

8. Leaf Raking and Winter Mulching on Sat., Nov. 23, 9 to 11 a.m.: Join us for coffee, doughnuts, and getting the St. Aidan's gardens ready for winter. We will rake, mulch and compost fallen leaves and spread mulch around newly planted shrubs. We have some rakes and shovels available; bring your own if you can!
9. We’re looking for new people to help host our Coffee Hour! Don’t worry; we’ll show you what to do. You can sign up with your family or friends to serve coffee, tea, and snacks. You can pick a Sunday that works for you, and you can help out once a month or just a few times a year. To sign up, you may find a sign-up sheet for hosting Coffee Hour on the table at the church's main entrance, on the basement bulletin board, as well as at the coffee hour table on Sundays—or you may email Ella at ekeemmanuella0@gmail.com. Currently, we only have coffee hour hosts scheduled through December 22. We’d love to have you help out by signing up to host any Sunday through the end of February.
10. Out of the Cold volunteers needed: If you would be interested in volunteering one Monday evening a month to prepare and serve food for Out of the Cold guests, socialize with them, or help with clean up please speak with Bruce Mori or Deacon Michael Van Dusen (mjpvandusen@gmail.com). We will provide basic training for this important outreach ministry.
11. Euchre: Join us on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. for a fun and friendly evening of progressive Euchre downstairs in the parish hall. Beginners welcome. Cost is $5.00 to play with all proceeds going to support St. Aidan’s community outreach to neighbours in need.
12. Beach Interfaith Outreach: Locations and dates for all lunches are listed in the Beach Metro News. The next lunch held here at St. Aidan’s is Tues., Nov. 12, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. As part of St. Aidan’s involvement in the Beach Interfaith Outreach Committee, we support the Grace Pascoe Care Centre. Your weekly donations (to the basket by the church office) are gratefully received.
13. Busy Bees Play Group welcomes children ages 0-3 and their caregivers on Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in our Parish Hall. We offer stories, music, and activities. We are looking for lightly used toys for babies and toddlers for our Busy Bees Play Group. Do you like to bake? We are looking for people to bake peanut-free goodies for the Busy Bees Play Group. If you can support us in either of these ways, please speak with Elizabeth.
14. Still need to make your pledge to support St. Aidan’s in the new year? So far we have heard responses from 25% of those who received stewardship packages. But fret not—there’s still time to send in your pledge for 2025! It’s most helpful for our budget planning if we can know of your pledges by mid December. If you have a printed pledge card, drop it by the church during the week, or place it in the offering plate on Sunday. To fill out the pledge card online, scan this QR code (scroll down the page to the online pledge form) or visit: https://staidansinthebeach.com/stewardship
