Notices: November 3, 2024

Dear St. Aidan’s,

Remember that this weekend is when we turn back the clocks one hour. Of course, many of our clocks and watches now adjust themselves—but do be sure to change the ones that require you turn adjust them so that you are at church at the right time. Enjoy your extra hour for rest this weekend!

Now that it’s November, Advent is right around the corner—just one month from today. Advent is the season in our church year when we prepare our hearts in anticipation for the birth of Jesus at Christmas. This Advent, our parish-wide Advent reflection book is Embracing Humanity by Isabelle Hamley:

Isabelle Hamley explores what it meant for God to become flesh and how this enables us to understand what it means to be human. Seeing humanity in a new light. God became flesh at Christmas. But how does God, who created all things, live within the limitations of humanity – limitations that humanity itself often resents and tries to transcend? And what does it truly mean to be human? Through the lens of Advent and Christmas, Isabelle Hamley guides us through daily reflections and prayers, encouraging us to meditate on being human in the light of God's choice to reach out to us in Jesus.

Throughout the month of December, I encourage you to consider reading this book as a spiritual discipline. There is a short reflection and prayer for each day from Dec. 1 through Dec. 25. You can read it on your own, with your family, or join one of the conversation groups that Rev. Becky will host each week beginning December 1—there will be an online group and an in-person group.

The book is available on Kindle, or a paperback can be ordered online (note that it should be ordered now in order to receive it in time). If you would like to be included in a group book order, please email me this week at priest@staidansinthebeach.com.

I hope to see you in church soon,
Becky+
