August 16, 2024
Dear St. Aidan’s,
I’m writing to you this morning as I have my tea out on the patio of an AirBnB in Squirrel Hill, a leafy neighbourhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We are making our way back toward Toronto after a few weeks away visiting with family and friends in the U.S. We’ve enjoyed stops along the way in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Though it’s been a lot of driving, it’s been good to reconnect with so many places and people, to be able to have my own car for the time away, and to bring our dog along to enjoy it all with us. I am looking forward to being back this Sunday, when I will preach and celebrate the Eucharist with you.
I hope many of you had the chance to experience and appreciate the Morning Prayer services these past few Sundays. Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer are an important part of the Anglican tradition, so it’s good when we can find a place for them in our worship. I’m considering how we may find a way to incorporate one or both of these into our worship offerings in the new program year, alongside our usual Sunday Eucharist services.
I am grateful to our deacon Michael, our lay assistants Mark and Grace, and our music director Michael for making sure all went smoothly with the Morning Prayer services, and to Paul and Deacon Michael for delivering thoughtful sermons (and for all the preparation that goes into them). I also offer my thanks to our wardens, Phil and Courtney (and the rest of corporation), and especially our parish administrator Mary Leone, for keeping everything running smoothly, as they do all the time (not just when I am away). St. Aidan’s is blessed with a committed and competent team of staff, clergy, and lay leaders, which amongst other benefits allows your incumbent to be able to take time away for rest and renewal knowing that all will be well.
I hope to see y’all in church soon,
Becky+
