Thursday September 1st The Bamberg Cathedral Girls’ Choir from Germany: Blessing for a Journey
Will be performed in St Aidan’s at 7 pm, a free concert of religious music from the 16th century to the present.
September 9 Open House
Have you ever wanted to tell a friend about St. Aidan’s but don’t feel comfortable inviting them to a service? You’re not alone! That’s why we’re having an open house, a low key way for people to ‘check out’ St. Aidan’s without the hustle and bustle of a Sunday morning.
So instead of saying, “Do you want to come to church with me on Sunday?” You could say, “Hey, my church is having an open house you should come check it out”. There will be free food, music, program information and leaders on-hand, and just a chance to simply wander around.
Come together anytime between 1:30pm and 3:30pm on Saturday, September 9th, just before welcome back Sunday.
Thursday September 28th Author Dinner Fundraiser at the Balmy Beach Club: A celebration of community and St Aidan’s role in the Beach.
Special Beach guests will be local author Peter Robinson and documentary film-maker Mike Downie, brother of Gord Downie. Peter’s books will be available for sale, along with Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel Secret Path. There will also be displays highlighting the many ways St Aidan’s engages with the community. Live music will be a feature of the evening, from blues to opera. This is a major fundraiser for us. Tickets are $75 each (cash or cheque), available from the Church Office.
Sunday October 1st Blessing of Animals
Bring your pets large and small to a short service at 3 pm followed by blessings outside.
Thursday October 5th, 6:30pm to 11:00pm Creative Space Art Exhibit Opening: Inaugural Creative Space Art Exhibit Opening
Come out and support our very own artists in residence! This show is a culmination of the past six months of their
work at St. Aidan’s in the Alan Dodd’s Studio.
Free Opening with refreshments and original artwork and prints for sale.
All four artists will be displaying their art on the stage in Memorial Hall. Pieces will be available for private viewing (contact the office to book a time) during the month of October, after which the residents’ work will be on display at a public gallery, Artisans at Work, at Danforth and Woodbine, from November 3rd to 26th (2071 Danforth Ave).
Many thanks to all the choir members who contributed this summer by bringing their gifts of music to our morning services! Choir practices resume on Thursday, September 7 at 7:30pm and we will continue with regular practices on Thursdays at 7:30pm and Sundays 9:30am. We are always happy to have new voices, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, please do!
Wednesday evenings Sept 13 to Oct 25, in the church from 7:30 to 8:15 pm.
Each week the church picks three readings for Sunday from the Old Testament, Acts or the Epistles, and one of the four gospels. Michael Van Dusen leads a discussion of these readings on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9 PM in the back of the church starting on Thursday September 7. The discussions include the history, social context, geography, theology and links between the readings. The conversation helps provide a richer background for hearing the Scripture on Sundays and praying with the texts. No preparation is required. Copies of the readings are supplied with notes or maps. As each week focuses on the readings for the coming Sunday, you are welcome to drop in any week! Please join us or contact Michael in person or at email@example.com
